Tegan’s whakapapa journey, bigger than just herself

Tegan talking about growing up on radio

Summary:

When Tegan first started announcing she was 22, now at 26 she not only had to discover who she is but also learn about the whakapapa of the MaiFM station to help positively contribute to the team and the station’s legacy!

Tegan talks about understanding herself, her values and what she stands for was something she needed to work on quickly when she first started announcing. Being on air each day, representing people that are listening on the airwaves, she knew it was important to understand herself to be as authentic as possible, of course with a bit of GST, as Tegan says, to bring that energy!

This journey also went hand in hand with learning about the whakapapa of the MaiFM radio station, there is an assumption of MaiFM being a ‘brown station’, but they are for everybody! However, there is an importance placed on being able to represent the audience and community that listen in daily, so understanding what makes MaiFM, MaiFM was something Tegan wanted to also prioritise!
