LYRICAL GENIUS | TRUCK DRIVERS DAUGHTER | LET’S TAKE A PIC FRIEND

Daz Burns is a wellbeing and leadership strategist, founder of The Good Day Matrix and a proud Waikato local on a mission to help New Zealanders thrive at work, at home, and in life.

With a background spanning high-performance sport, education, entrepreneurship and community leadership, Daz brings a rare blend of heart, strategy and lived experience.

She has managed elite netball teams including the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic and the New Zealand Secondary Schools team, holds a Diploma of Sport in Recreation and a Bachelor of Teaching, spending over a decade leading early childhood centres.

Daz is also a Director of Burns Construction, a children’s book author, Soda Inc. Programme graduate, and has been a member of the Microsoft SMB Council and Entrepreneurial Women with Purpose. In 2019, she founded Know No Bounds Charitable Trust, breaking down barriers so children across Aotearoa can access sport, play and movement.

After experiencing overwhelm firsthand as a young mum, Daz turned challenge into innovation. She founded the Hey Mama Movement, which grew from a handful of friends into 120 women gathering weekly, and later going on to develop world-first wellbeing technology and lead impactful, future-focused projects.

Known for challenging accepted norms and creating powerful ripple effects, Daz works with leaders, teams and communities to build resilient, connected strategies, systems and processes that actually last. Her work with The Good Day Matrix is grounded in purpose, curiosity and practical life formulas to support people to live well, lead well, and have more good days, every day.

Emily Ussher

24/7 SPORT | COUNTRY GAL | BACKSTORY LOVER

Proud country girl and small-town product of Huntly, Em is all about people, connection and bringing good humans together. Whānau and friends sit at the centre of her world, and she gets genuine joy from seeing others succeed and thrive.

Sport has shaped much of Em’s life, both on and off the field or court. She has competed at a high-performance level across multiple codes, including netball through Waikato Bay of Plenty pathways and representing Aotearoa in Flag Football, where she has had the honour of captaining the New Zealand Women’s team. Through years immersed in elite environments, Em has developed a deep understanding of teamwork, resilience, culture, and what it truly takes for individuals and teams to perform at their best.

Leadership has never been something Em actively chased, but it is a space she naturally steps into creating safe, supportive environments where people can be themselves, grow their confidence, and achieve collective success. These lived experiences heavily influence the way she shows up in her mahi, alongside supporting Daz and the wider The Good Day Matrix kaupapa through events, podcasts, and all the behind-the-scenes magic aka the organisational Swiss Army knife.

Outside of work, you’ll find Em spending time with loved ones, embracing her amateur CrossFit era, dominating a competitive board game, on a netty court or flag or rugby field, or ensuring every car ride includes a top-tier karaoke track.
