Ever wondered how long you need each day for Pilates? The ladies from Progressive Pilates explain the 5 key benefits you can get in just 30 minutes!

Don’t worry we get it!

I think most of you reading this will agree that the hardest thing about exercise, is finding the time to do it, right? It is so commonly thought that we need to spend hours a day or week exercising to get results. But is that really true? If we set ourselves an unrealistic goal to work out or go to the gym for hours on end, what is the likelihood that we will actually stick to this?

In order to feel results through Pilates, you need commitment. But what is most important is finding a simple workout that you can fit into your busy daily schedule. 30 minutes of Pilates a day, without even leaving your own home? Sounds easy.

So, what benefits can you get from only 30minutes of Pilates?

There are so many benefits to Pilates, and 30minutes is actually a long time to fit in a lot of great movement for your body! Let’s talk through just 5 benefits you can get in 30 minutes!

Relieves back pain

Pilates does wonders for relieving back pain. Through activation of the core muscles, including the pelvic floor, you are able to support your spine. Not only does the strengthening of our muscles help relieve back pain, but also the mobilization of the muscles around our spine and joints.

Strengthens muscles

Through Pilates exercises, you strengthen and lengthen all of your muscles without putting pressure on your joints. By lengthening your muscles while strengthening them you reduce the risk of injury and strain through your muscles. This creates long, lean and toned muscles without giving you that ‘bulky’ look.

Improve flexibility and joint mobility

Flexibility and mobility is something that we ALL strive for, no matter what age. Who doesn’t want to move with more ease? Through simple, dynamic movements Pilates helps to free up the aches and pains you feel through your back, hips, neck and shoulders.

Reduces stress

Being able to tune out of life for 30 minutes and tune into your Pilates instructor does wonders for stress. You no longer have to think! The movements and exercises that we go through in Pilates don’t put any stress on your body, we have zero tolerance for pain (unless it’s your glutes burning, then that’s fine).

Mindfulness

In Pilates, we focus a lot on your ‘mind body’ connection. By becoming more aware of our bodies and how we hold ourselves, we will find ourselves mindlessly correcting our posture, bringing us into more pain-free positions when we are working out, or just in everyday life. It also helps us to slow down and connect with ourselves. It’s very easy to get caught up in the everyday stresses of life that feel more important than taking time for ourselves. Pilates helps bring that mindfulness back.

Summary

Overall, what I’m hoping you have learnt from this is that you don’t need to spend hours to feel results, this applies to not only Pilates but all other forms of exercise! The key is MOVEMENT. Movement keeps us feeling young. Joseph Pilates, the founder of Pilates once said, “You will feel better in ten sessions, look better in twenty, and have a completely new body in thirty sessions”.
