Giving back and connecting to your community

Te Pūoho talks about giving back to your community and connecting to your culture

Summary:

Te Pūoho discusses the importance of belonging and reciprocity in Maori culture.

Te Pūoho believe that a sense of belonging is built on the aroha, or love and care, that one pours into their community. Reciprocity, or giving back to the community, is also a key part of Maori cultural mindset, which is shown through pepeha (ones introduction) with the individual’s connection to their mountain, river, marae, iwi, and hapu before even mentioning themselves.

Te Pūoho also talks about the importance that is place within the Māori culture of being a part of a collective unit! While everyone has their own individual squirts, skills and characteristics we are all linked back to our community!

He encourages people to find different communities to give back to, whether it be through sports, politics, or hobbies. By giving to different communities, individuals can receive different sources of energy which can help fill your wellbeing cup!
